3 Tips For Making the Most of Small Spaces
Organizing small spaces can be challenging! Whether it’s a non-existent pantry or a tiny entry-way closet, organization + a minimalistic mindset can help.
Personally, our team loves to tackle small space organization. It’s truly rewarding to take something messy and stressful and transform it into a functional space. Although small spaces require more creativity, they also help us be mindful in how much we bring into our homes. Smaller spaces = less stuff = easier to declutter and clean up!
Hopefully, this gives you hope for your small space! Read on for our top tips AND our exclusive guide to getting your small space organized.
Having Less is Best
Reminder: just because you have an open shelf, cabinet, or drawer DOESN’T mean it needs to be filled! Sometimes, less really is more and is the better choice.
It’s important to realize that sometimes our space isn’t the problem - it’s how much stuff we have. Small spaces force us to be mindful of what we bring into our homes and what we keep.
When working on organizing a small space, start by creating a clear vision for the space. Do you want space for your baking items? It is essential to have a drop-station drawer in your kitchen for sunglasses and keys? If it’s not part of your vision, it’s got to go find another home - even if it’s in the trash or on the way to a donation center!
Get Creative with Storage
When working in small spaces it’s important to think outside the box. We love using built-ins, functional furniture, and creating storage space where there wasn't any before.
Take a look around your home and notice what storage space isn’t being utilized. Do you have empty drawers in a dresser or space on a bookshelf? Add drawer organizers or a pretty basket to turn it into a functional spot for storing essential items. Is your closet packed but under your bed is totally free? Try under-bed bins for seasonal storage items.
Nowhere in your house to store the items you need to keep? Maybe it’s time to think about adding a functional piece of furniture or swapping out something you have for an item with more storage. Think cube units, couches with hidden storage, ottomans that open up, and nightstands and side tables with drawers. There are so many options to have pieces of furniture in your home that are both functional AND pretty!
Use The Right Oranizing Product
Ready to get your space super organized? Start by picking out the right product!
We recommend measuring your space BEFORE picking product - this ensures you get a basket or bin that fits perfectly in the space. Getting the correct size product is essential in making the most of your small space and not wasting a single inch! When picking product, we also recommend looking for straight lines & 90 degree angles - round baskets & bins with slanted lines often leave gaps when organizing a small space.
