Top Tips For Simplifying Your Holiday Season
Think back to your fondest holiday memory, whether it was recent or when you were a child. What do you remember the most? Was it the elaborate holiday decor, or was it the time your dad spent to hang up lights with you? Was it the perfect gift you gave, or the feeling that you helped someone feel happy and loved?
My favorite holiday memory to date is baking with my kids…and not going to lie, I am NOT a great baker. The cookies & cakes we make are nowhere near perfect…or even pretty…but I love & treasure the time I get to spend being fully present with them while taking a break from the everyday hustle & bustle.
Take this thought with you as a reminder this holiday season: you do NOT have to do it all to have a special, wonderful time.
In fact, one of the keys to staying organized is keeping things simple - and this means avoiding unnecessary gifts, bulky decor, and time wasting activities. Keeping things simple this holiday season will help you focus on what’s important - spending time with friends & family and making memories.
Gift Experiences Over Things
My top tip for simplifying and staying organized this holiday season? Gift EXPERIENCES over things. This simple hack will save you time, money, and energy! The best part? It helps to keep useless clutter out of your home - most experience based gifts can be given in an envelope or card.

Get Your Holiday Storage in Order
Nothing ruins the magic of the holiday season like having to sift & sort through every hosting and decor item you’ve had for the past twenty years. Now is a great time to donate or toss any items you aren’t using. Grabbing any new holiday lights or cute serving platters this year? Make sure to practice the one in, one out rule so that your storage space doesn’t become overwhelmed.
Does your family love holiday themed blankets, pajamas and accessories? Although these items are so fun, it can be easy for them to add up and create clutter in your home. Make sure to create a designated seasonal bin for each and rotate the items when you put away your other seasonal decor.
Plan & Delegate
Sometimes, we have too much on our plate and the idea of ‘simplifying’ seems impossible. If this is you, it might be time to ask for help! Have an honest conversation with your support system and let them know how excess gifts, hosting, or holiday activities might be overwhelming you this holiday season. See what items can be crossed off your to-do list (is it really necessary?) or delegate to someone else (can your partner help you wrap gifts or cook dinner?)
Finally - if you are able, don’t be afraid to hire help! From a cleaning service to ordering takeout, taking small things off your to-do list can make a big difference.
